Start Doing the Right Things

OK. I didn't start out doing things right.

I put up some domains some years ago and was making about $500 a month selling Net Detective.

Pretty good I thought.

But, the problem was I was doing it MY way. Even after I accepted early retirement I kept doing pretty much the same thing. I just had more time to do things wrong.

My domain hosting was costing $100 a year per domain, and I wasn't really getting anywhere. I was reluctant to get more useless domains--after all the ones I had weren't really successful.

I purchased Make Your Site SELL! and a few other books and ebooks a year or two before I retired.

Yea, yea, yea. They all say the same thing.

But, it's the RIGHT thing. And I eventually came to the decision that I really didn't know what I was doing.

I began following the SEO forums, finally UNDERSTANDING what was in the ebooks.

Now, if I choose effective keyword phrases, my sites can almost always get to the top in the search engines. Even for competitive keyword phrases!

Life is a learning exercise. And I exercise every day--well, at least 3 times a week.

So, if you feel that you are "barking up the wrong tree" and not accomplishing what you really want, then ....

I suggest you stop doing what you're doing and spend a couple of weeks reading the SEO forums, reading some of the ebooks I describe, and examine the other resources at http://www.web-smart.info/optimization-tools.htm before you do anything more with your sites.

With the right amount of enthusiasm and desire you can do really well. But, you've got to truly understand the seemingly "difficult", but so utterly basic techniques of picking your keyword phrases, writing for your customers, and optimizing your site.
